South Florida Utilization Review (SFUR) has been doing all case physician advisor reviews -- telephonic and retrospective -- as well as quality assurance projects for the past 23 years for the companies noted on our Customer List. We currently perform physician advisor level utilization review  for a number of insurance carriers and we do external peer review for a 130 hospital chain and a 9 hospital chain.   A popular service is the our negotiation of hospital bills, ambulatory surgical center bills and surgeon’s bills.  

In 2004 South Florida Utilization Review achieved accreditation by Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC),  one of but 30 independent review organizations in the United States to have earned that distinction. This accreditation is valid to November 1, 2010. In March 2009 we celebrated our 23th anniversary as one of the first private independent review organizations in Florida. 

We employ 150 physician advisors in Florida, the southeast United States and Texas who are board certified in their specialties and as workers' compensation providers.   All these physician advisors have been credentialed by us and are re-credentialed every two years so our customers need not worry about undertaking this time-­consuming process. 

A popular service is hospital bill negotiation and surgical claim recoding and re-pricing; on appeal these are sent to the appropriate surgical specialist.

South Florida Utilization Review carries errors and omissions insurance in the amount of $250,000/$500,000.  We have reviewed tens of thousands of cases and so far have not been sued.  Our turnaround time on a retrospective review is ten working days and on RUSH reviews five working days.  South Florida Utilization Review is managed by Dr. Grossman who proofreads all reports that go out.

We have board-certified specialists in orthopedics, neurology, spine surgery, neurosurgery, pain management and anesthesiology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, psychiatry, chiropractic, and all other work-related and group health specialties as well as specialists in every American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS)  listed specialty.  Our doctors have handled tens of thousands of pre-certification telephonic back surgery, orthopedic surgery and imaging study utilization review requests as well as retrospective reviews for ongoing testing and management of back and joint cases.  The hospital external peer review cases are of every specialty, including radiology second reads of every kind of imaging study, and generate a detailed report and scoring form. We are prepared to see these cases through litigation if that becomes necessary.  South Florida Utilization Review will manage and guarantee availability of the physician advisor at attorney conference, deposition and trial. 

The SFUR Board meets regularly in telephone conference to discuss issues related to our ongoing quality performance. 

South Florida Utilization Review is licensed in the State of Florida as a Private Utilization Review Agent (2007-2009) and in the State of Alabama as a workers' compensation Utilization Review and Bill Screening agent (2008-2010).
